Glucose Entering The Body

When someone digests something such as after lunch. The body breaks down the sugars to make glucose. The glucose then starts the glycolysis cycle. The glycolysis cycle is a 10 step process in which glucose and produces pyruvate and 2 ATP's that the body uses as energy. The pyruvate can then go three different ways. It can be fermented like in yeasts or ethanol, stored in the muscle as lactate or go through an aerobic process to produce Acetyl CoA. The Acetyl CoA continues on to the citric acid cycle to produce more energy.

The body uses the glucose for many things. The body gets energy out of the glycolysis cycle and the body stores the lactate made from the glucose in the muscles so when one works out the lactic acid is released into the body which gives one energy and endurance. As we learned in class ahve too much or not enough glucose is harmful and is something that everyone should be aware of.

  1. I thought your entry was very thorough and to the point. This made it easy to follow along and understand the process of glucose breakdown. I also like how you related the process of glucose metabolism to what the body uses glucose for, for example when you relate the glycolysis cylce to working out which involves lactic acid release. Great entry!

  2. Hey Kendra! I like your name! haha! I totally agree with the previous entry. You did a very good job at answering this question because you really got right to the point and then talked more in detail as to why glucose is important as well as how the body utilizes it. Sometimes you just get so tired of reading entries that just explain the whole reaction in detail you know? I also really like how you added the harming effects of too much glucose and the positive feedback of strength and endurance. It is very important for readers to see both sides and be able to see why it is.

  3. Hi Kendra,
I agree with the other posts. I think if you read this to any of my friends, they would understand it and be thankful that you didn't go into too much detail. Just saying that "glycolysis cycle is a 10 step process in which produces pyruvate and 2 ATP's that the body uses as energy" is detail enough!

Thanks for the post. After having written mine, it was nice to get my brain out of the details and up to the topic level that really matters.

  4. Very interesting Kendra, now what happens when you eat dinner, or breakfast?

    Just kidding ;)

Very good, and seemingly to the point. I really like how detailed it is. Great job!

  5. I think your entry was very to the point and very understandable to someone who is not a science person or has knowledge of the subject. This is how I should have written my post, you did a great job!
